I recently received this tweet. Not trying to be mean, but there is so much wrong with this sentence:

“@julieplec It’s not good going against the fans wish for Kol to live. It could give you a bad reputation as a writer.”

Let me elaborate: Storytelling is not a democracy and it never will be. I love and admire the passion of the Kol fan base, but no petition, or trending topic, or ongoing twitter assault on my mentions is going to make us do something we don’t believe is right or necessary for the show right now. Some of you have gotten a bit meanly personal. Others have shown nothing but grace. And your enthusiasm means the world to all of us. But if you want a choose-your-own adventure, go to the library. Otherwise, find it in your hearts to trust that we love the story we’re telling and are going to keep giving 1000% of our creative souls to it —- even when it makes a few people unhappy. Maybe one day you’ll see Kol again when the story is right. Maybe not. I hope you’ll keep watching anyway.

I get it, you can’t give the fans everything they want and some are out of line, but are the fan reactions really such a surprise to you? Did you forget all the bullshit that has happened in S4?

1. Guys, you can stop with the trends, they don’t matter and that goes for every character and ship.

yes, that’s why season 4 happened. There were no plotholes, there were plot craters. Storylines being rushed or simply droped, a lot of things not making sense, major things and characters being ooc. Riiight, you are giving everything.

4. ‘even when it makes a few people unhappy.’

A few? Really? More like (at least) 95% of the fans. If we would be talk about Hayley’s dead then you would be right.

5. I really love how like 99% of the time people are kissing her ass on twitter. Someone actually made this and Julie re-twitted it.

So, killing Kol and making his death look ridiculous is good writing? Bringing him back is bad writing, but bringing Jeremy back like what 2-3 times now is good writing? I presume keeping a character like hayley is good writing then too? even though she had like 5 different personalities, her character is crappy written and get’s even worse storylines.

I know the writers can’t give fans everything they want and I know that from other shows as well, but this here is bullshit. On other shows fan favs. are getting killed off too, but it makes sense, it fits the story and it’s believable. You get (most of the time) good stories, that make sense, that are pushing the shows forward, giving the characters new layers and the results are character growth etc. But on TVD that doesn’t really happen and s4 is good example for that.
